Bowler hat progress at college today. Focusing on getting the brim nice and sharp. After fitting a wire all around I am now getting the felt to fold over it. Here I am preparing to cut the felt at exactly 1cm from the wire edge, so it’s all nice and sharp before sewing it down. The finishing touches can make or break a hat: Sewing the ribbon and label by hand, sanding the brim to give it a sharp edge, a final steam on the block to fix the shape. It’s a bit nerve-wracking to do everything by hand but I love it when it all comes into place!
